Stewart & Shields expand into Inverclyde
Riverside Inverclyde (Ri), the organisation delivering the economic redevelopment of Inverclyde, has welcomed Stewart and Shields, a long-established Helensburgh-based construction company, to 4,500 square feet premises at Kelburn Business Park in Port Glasgow.
The units, which have been leased for a period of five years and will comprise offices and storage facilities for the company’s extensive plant and equipment, also provides the company improved access to Scotland’s motorway network and its customers based south of the River Clyde.
Family-owned Stewart & Shields, which is run by the founder’s grandsons, Richard and Mark Shields, provides a building service for private and public-sector clients, covering all types of projects including new build, refurbishment and conversion work.
Stewart & Shields has delivered projects for Ri previously, having been appointed in October 2017 to complete further fit-out works at Kelburn Business Park totalling 17,394 square feet which, in turn, enabled its directors to see the high calibre of space available and move to secure the premises.
Richard Shields, a director of Stewart and Shields, said:
“We have been impressed by the support we have received from Ri whose team went out of their way to make our entry into the new premises almost entirely hassle-free.
“We have successfully tendered for many developments across Scotland and in particular the west coast including Inverclyde, so a bonus of the new location is a handy base from which we expect to hire local people to support further business growth."
In October 2018, Stewart & Shields successfully tendered for a £1.6 million design and build construction contract by Riverside Inverclyde Property Holdings to undertake the development of its food and drink incubator, Baker Street Food & Drink Enterprises in Greenock.
Gerry McCarthy, Chair of Ri said:
"We are delighted that Stewart & Shields, like a growing list of businesses including Peak Scientific, Balmore Group, On-Site Scanning, Nutcrafter Creamery and the Start-Up Drinks Lab, has expressed its enthusiasm for Inverclyde's Kelburn Business Park as a base from which to do business throughout west central Scotland.
“This is further proof of the growing confidence in the construction market in Inverclyde through the number of developments and on-going regeneration. We wish Richard and his team continued success for the future.”
Kelburn Business Park has one remaining 15,500 square feet unit available, and Riverside Inverclyde is currently in discussions with multiple interested parties.
